Mark your calendars for Films at the Whitney’s fall 2024 series, “World Documentaries Today,” curated by Ph.D. student Lora Maslenitsyna.
World Documentaries Today celebrates new and cutting-edge nonfiction films that bring urgent global issues—from political disinformation to cultural repatriation—into sharp focus through innovative storytelling.
The series kicks off on Thursday, September 5, with an advance screening of the Moroccan film The Mother of All Lies, followed by a Q&A with director Asmae El Moudir, ahead of its official release in New York City the next day. El Moudir’s film presents a “delicate mix of handmade replicas and oral testimony [that] brilliantly evokes the personal and collective trauma that stem from Morocco’s “Years of Lead”—a period of state brutality under Hassan II’s dictatorial rule” (Phuong Le, The Guardian—read the full review here).
All are welcome to attend! Our screenings are free and open to the public.
