The Invisible Kingdom Earns Spot on the New York Times Best Seller List

The Invisible Kingdom: Reimagining Chronic Illness by Meghan O’Rourke
March 24, 2022

Last week, The Invisible Kingdom: Reimagining Chronic Illness by Meghan O’Rourke ’97 made the New York Times Best Seller list for hardcover nonfiction. O’Rourke is editor of The Yale Review and a current Whitney Humanities Center Fellow.

The Invisible Kingdom is part medical memoir, part manifesto. In a review for the New York Times, Andrew Solomon praises O’Rourke’s book as “a profound, sometimes lyrical, deeply moving portrayal of a vague constellation of illnesses,” one that both offers a “puncturing” critique of medicine today and helps people who, like O’Rourke, are afflicted with unexplained chronic illnesses. The Invisible Kingdom was also named a Best Nonfiction Book of 2022 by Esquire.
