Palvasha Shahab

Palvasha Shahab is a doctoral student at the Department of History. Her research will examine the interplay between environmental and legal histories of the Indus river delta. She is interested in how empires and science have historically conceived of water and constructed commodity flows. She has an LLM from Columbia Law School and a BA-LLB from Lahore University of Management Sciences. She has held fellowships at the Max Planck Institute for Legal History and Legal Theory, and the European Center for Constitutional and Human Rights. Previously a social justice lawyer, researcher, and lecturer in Pakistan, she has authored reports, legal opinions, and publications for various governmental and non-governmental bodies.

She is one of the coordinators for the Asia History Working Group this academic year, 2024–2025.
