Xinyue Zhang

Xinyue Zhang is a first-year Ph.D. student in the Department of History. Her research explores the social history of technology and environment in twentieth-century China and East Asia during times of crisis. She is particularly interested in how ordinary people related themselves to meteorological knowledge and managed weather risks during the Second World War. Overall, she seeks to better understand processes of colonial and semi-colonial encounters, grassroots mobilization, and local adaptations in modern China and transnationally in Asia. Xinyue received a B.A. degree in History and College of Social Studies from Wesleyan University and an M.A. degree in East Asian Studies from Yale University.
