Shiri Goren

Shiri Goren is the director of the Hebrew Program and a faculty member in the Department of Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations. She currently serves as NELC director of undergraduate studies. Her teaching and research focus on contemporary literature, film, and other cultural production in Israel/Palestine, second language acquisition, and the pedagogy of inclusive teaching of culture. She teaches courses on Israeli culture and society as well as about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Her most recent course (fall 2025) is “Reading Between the Panels: Visual Narratives and the Culture of Hebrew Graphic Novels.” She is the recipient of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences Dean’s Award for Inclusion and Belonging (2024).

Goren is the co-editor of Choosing Yiddish: New Frontiers of Language and Culture (Wayne State University Press, 2013), which highlights a new generation of scholars revitalizing the field of Yiddish Studies.
