Labor Process Working Group Description

As ChatGPT reshapes many professional and artistic labor processes, many are left dumbfounded on how to interpret or criticize the introduction of this new technology. Our working group hopes to resuscitate a critical conversation that might help. Exploring the intersection of the history of capitalism, class struggle, and technology, we will re-examine literature dealing with changes in various labor processes over the last 200 years. During the commemorative 50-year anniversary of Harry Braverman’s seminal text Labor and Monopoly Capital: The Degradation of Work in the 20^th Century, there may be no better time to open up and ask questions about how social, political, and economic forces shape workplaces and work processes.
