Sydney Simon

Sydney Skelton Simon is the Bradley Associate Curator of Academic Affairs at the Yale University Art Gallery, where she oversees the Gallery’s robust university-level outreach and teaching programs. Sydney works with faculty in a wide range of disciplines and fields at Yale and beyond to design class visits that draw out content connections, develop and hone critical skills and thinking dispositions, expose students to an important campus resource, and build community among students in the class. She emphasizes accessible modes of engagement that cultivate a sense of belonging among learners in the museum.

Sydney received her B.A. from Yale University in History of Art and her Ph.D. from Stanford University in Art History, specializing in post-World War II American art and design. Her art historical research and publications have focused on the intersections of art, design, science, and corporate culture, especially in the career and oeuvre of Harry Bertoia (1915–1978). She previously held positions at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., and at Stanford University’s Anderson Collection and Cantor Arts Center.
