Care in the Age of AI

Care is increasingly used as a premise for media designed to ease the friction of everyday life. These forms of media promise to mediate fear and anxiety, often at the cost of the user’s personal data. In this context, protection and care are increasingly self-administered practices that improve the lives of individuals but raise problems of trust and competence around technology. This panel considers how the concept of care as a deeply relational act of both concern and healing is complicated when undertaken by a machine. What ultimately defines “care” in a technically oriented society?
