Latin Arts and Activisms Working Group

The Latin Arts and Activisms Working Group (LAAWG) focuses on the comparative analysis of Latinx, Latin American, and Caribbean cultural histories in the United States and beyond. Grounded in a commitment to interdisciplinary scholarship in the humanities, the group provides a forum for investigating the intersections of literature, music, visual arts, and performance with critical approaches drawn from postcolonial and decolonial studies, transnational migration studies, film and media studies, archival studies, and infrastructure studies. Each semester, we host two to three colloquia that convene scholars, activists, and artists to discuss ongoing research, share creative projects, and engage pressing cultural and political questions. Graduate students play a central role in shaping the group’s activities—collaborating on panel organization, presenting works-in-progress, and inviting guest speakers whose work bridges academic inquiry and community engagement.
