Seeking Global Sanctuary in a Time of Climate Emergency

The Seeking Global Sanctuary in a Time of Climate Emergency workshop convened a diverse group of experts, including historians, environmental scientists, legal scholars, literary critics, psychiatrists, architects, anthropologists, practitioners, and artists. They engaged in discussions and critiques of current concepts of environmental migration and sanctuary, with a specific focus on understanding the cultural geographies and shared histories influencing environmental migrants’ itineraries. Through interdisciplinary discussions, an art installation, and an immersive data lab, the workshop examined ways to respond ethically to the complex political, technical, and humanitarian challenges of inhabitation for migrants in an era of climate change.
