New Tales of the Human Past: Cultural change and human histories

This workshop series brought together a group of anthropologists, geneticists, historians, linguists, and musicologists to explore various methods and approaches to studying the human past. Over the course of three workshops held during the 2021–22 academic year, scholars from within and beyond Yale engaged with each other’s work on human histories and identified new frontiers in understanding the human past. These interdisciplinary discussions covered a wide range of topics, including the co-evolution of language and cognition in human and humanoid species, as well as the ethical dimensions of genetic research.
