Alan Thomas is the Editorial Director at the University of Chicago Press, where he acquires scholarly and trade books in the humanities. He looks for ambitious manuscripts marked by writerly assurance and unorthodox thinking, whether first books or those by established authors. In recent years he has acquired books by such notable authors as Teju Cole, Amitav Ghosh, Susan Stewart, and Anahid Nersessian.
