Eurasian Ecologies

This working group aims to establish a fruitful dialogue between Eurasian literature, broadly construed, and the ever-pressing field of ecocriticism. We wish to chart and forge connections, largely underexamined within current scholarly discussions, between current ecocritical thought and texts composed in Eastern Europe, Central Asia, and the Caucasus—geographical and geopolitical regions of environmental concern. Participants will meet twice a month to examine precirculated materials and present ongoing research projects. Readings will be decided on collectively at the beginning of each semester. The group will also host supplementary events such as film screenings, field trips, and/or guest lectures. Anyone with an interest in these topics is welcome to participate.
