Digital Praxis in the Humanities: a DH@Yale Conversation Series
In this Spring 2022 series, leading DH scholars discussed how the digital reorganization of scholarship has triggered new research questions and outcomes. Centering four main practices—editing, archiving, mapping, databasing—these conversations highlighted how digital projects begin, how their conclusions intersect with current critical discourses, and how their methods transform what it means to work in the humanities.
Gallery at the Whitney
The Gallery at the Whitney was an open exhibition space in the WHC’s former home at 53 Wall Street, showcasing artwork by and exhibits curated by members of the Yale community. Running from 2007 to 2020, the gallery hosted rotating exhibits roughly twice a year—from photography and sculpture to embroidery and painting. It launched with an inaugural show by founding fellow and sociologist David Apter, whose own photography sparked the idea for the gallery.
Shulman Lectures in Science and the Humanities
The Shulman Lectures brought up to four visiting speakers to campus each year, paired with an undergraduate seminar exploring topics at the intersection of science and the humanities. Running from 2013 to 2022, the series featured scholars from fields spanning neuroscience, physics, philosophy, and media studies. It was named for Robert Shulman, Sterling Professor Emeritus of Chemistry, Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry, a founding fellow of the WHC and longtime champion of connecting science and the humanities.
